Health Updates

Hello dear friends....this is my second attempt at an update. I had one done and I lost it! UGH! I wanted to give you a quick update on things here and also thank you for the many emails and prayers. The picture above is Emmie and her best friend Kenzie.
EMMIE: We took her to the doctor this week. They checked her sugar and iron levels which seemed to be fine. They also performed and inner ear test. That also seemed to be fine. We brought her back the next day to have a blood draw. She needed to take an anxiety pill before this because she just does not handle this very well. The lab tech was excellent and she got blood on the first try. When we attempted this last March, they got nothing with 3 attempts. So needless to say Emmie was a wreck. She got through it like a champ. We are waiting for those results and they also have her scheduled for an Eco Gram to check her heart. She also got the "ok" to go to soccer camp on Sunday which I was NOT happy about. (as a Mother) However, this camp is at Hope College which is substantially closer to us then the Uof M. So we have not really figured out yet why she has passed out, so we just carry on until more of the test results become clear.
MYSELF: I have Arthritis. Lovely! 41, and I have Arthritis! I start PT next week and I also have been told that the food I consume may very well trigger the inflammation! So, when reading the food I can eat vs. the food I shouldn't eat......why don't you just come and kill me now! Seriously.......it will be a total and complete change. This morning for breakfast, I had tuna, an apple and a few almonds???? What the dilly?????? I am heading out to the grocery store in a few to get some of the things I need as I really am not stocked with these "oh so delicious items" in my house! . ~sigh~ I am also taking some different herbal things to try and help with the pain as well. Also twice a day I am to drink this medical food drink. I can hardly wait.....so....thank you again for all your kind words of encouragement. When I hear about Emmie's blood work I will be sure to let you know.
Enjoy your weekend......
Hugs,
S*

So happy to read an update on you and Emmie. I wish they would give you some idea what is going on with her but hopefully they will figure it out soon. Glad she had a good 'sticker' for the blood draw : )

I hope your new meds and diet help you. Yeah, that breakfast was not my ideal either LOL

Hang in there and know you are in our constant prayers

Stef, So glad the tests came back OK. Still concerned here. Hope the Echo is good but also hoping they find a reason for the fainting spells. Greet Emmie for us.

As for your new diet, well, YUCK! but if it helps, it will be worth it. You just need to retrain your taste buds. ;)

Thank you for the update. The diet does NOT sound fun. Sorry, kiddo. Continue to keep us posted on Emmie.

Hugs.

Thanks for updating us Steffie. I'll continue to pray for Emmie that these episodes don't point to anything serious. My first thought was actually maybe a heart arrhythmia so I'm happy they are doing the echocardiogram.

SO sorry about the arthritis. I have it now in my thumbs and have trouble OPENING stuff (makes me feel like I'm 80). And I'll be 41 in a few months. Sounds like yours will take a bit more out of you in terms of therapy and diet. Hope it all gets you feeling better very soon though!

I am so glad that, so far, Emmie's tests are normal.....we'll still be praying here for the ECHO to be normal as well....and that the fainting spells are a thing of the past!

Well, I am so sorry that you have joined my arthritis club! Bless your heart...I feel your pain~ literally!
'Got lots of that little stinker in my body...and it is no fun most of the time.....but the meds I take are amazing...and help alleviate most of the inflammation and subsequent pain associated therein!
I'd be happy to share with you privately...(email me).

I'll certainly be keeping you close in my thoughts....and covered in prayer as you regroup and handle these new and unexpected health issues.
You are such a strong woman whose inner strength comes from our precious Heavenly Father....and there is absolutely NOTHING that you and HE can't handle, together!!!!
Rest in Him ...lean into Him....He'll always, always catch you!!!!

Love you, my sweet friend!

I'll continue to pray for Emmie, as you await the blood test and echo results. I'm sorry to hear you have arthritis, but am glad they were able to pinpoint the problem so that you can start treating it. I would not do well with that diet. I pray you find what works!

Oh Steffie...I'm just catching up on your blog...I am so sorry to hear about both you and Emmie. I will be saying some MAJOR prayers for her!! I'm glad you have a diagnosis and can treat your issues. I'd be interested to hear what type of foods they are suggesting that you eat.

I'm still having problems veiwing your blog, but I have been copying and pasting them and then I can read them.

You have so much on your plate right now my friend! I'm excited that you have found a waiting child. You are one amazing momma!!!

I am glad to hear that all of the tests look good for Emmie. I really don't think she should go to soccer camp as it is way too hot right now and I think she may have suffered from heat exhaustion before. But I am not the doctor.
I am sorry to hear that you have arthritis. I have heard that they have been coming up with some very good medications for it, so hopefully you will be able to find something to stop the continuous pain.

Stef, I haven't been blogging recently as my business has been keeping me on my toes. I read a few of your posts this evening and felt bad that I had not kept up. I sure hope they can find out what is going on with Em as I know this is a big concern.

When will you get your MRI results? I hope you will get the necessary treatments to feel better soon.

As I read your posts about adoption I look back over our journey too, and sometimes it is best just to let go and let God. This situation is completely out of our control and the more we think we can change things the more it creates sadness in our lives. The unknown timetable is there for a reason and we don't always need the answers other than "not now". You may have some healing to do before you can be the mother you wish to be for the little ones in your life. God may be calling you to rest. Look at Sarah, she was in her nineties when she became a mom (for the first time). I'm almost there with her, well a little over half way there! Be good to yourself. You are worth it.

Hey Stef,
I am sorry you're going through this.

I was really bummed I didn't get to see you today at church, but I saw Emmie and Sophia!
Lauren went right to Sophia like she remembered her, it was so funny.
Then...Lauren said it was her birthday and Sophia said it was going to be her birthday but the teacher misunderstood so the whole class sang "Happy Birthday" to both of them and afterward Sophia announced to them that it's not her birthday- it was great!!

I'm praying for ya,
Sue

It was so great to see an update listed on your blog (I was getting a little worried)...and I guess I can say so far it is good news on Emmie (I am praying that the blood work comes back clear). And as for yourself...I guess with the arthritis...at least now you know what it is and how to help it.

Hope you are having a great weekend!!!

Hi, I found your site through another. I was reading the update about your daughter passing out. My daughter has something called "dysautonomia" (POTS) postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. It just made me think about that. I'll keep her in my prayers.
Take care, Sherri
