What NOT to do on NYD!

  • Well, let me start this post off by saying that for NYE...... David, Emmie, Sophia and I got to go out for a mere 2:15 hours. Our friends were having a small gathering and had asked us over. The more I thought about taking "The Boy", the more I knew I needed to find another option. So on Sunday, I hunted down their daughter that is a senior in HS. I knew I would have to make a good offer for her to post pone going out until later. I got 2 hours and fifteen minutes.....she got $100, PLUS I already had The Boy in bed! HNY! Desperate measures calls for major buckage!
  • We come home on time and I get Miss Sophia to bed. At 11:25 PM our power goes out. Total and complete darkness. Mind you this is the 2nd time in 9 days that this has happened. I was NOT happy!
  • I stumble through the house and find flashlights.
  • I knew Thing 2 would probably sleep right through it, but Thing 1 would be another story if she woke up and her night light was not on. Thing Teen is totally freaked out. She does NOT do well when stuff like this happens. We all sleep with noise makers in our rooms. Sleeping in silence does not happen at our house!
  • 12:13 AM I flip on the flash light again because I am calling the power company(AGAIN) to hear if a restoration time has been given yet. That would be a negative.
  • Thing Teen is on her cell phone. How do I know???? Because it is so freaking quiet in our house.......I can't stand it! I tell her to be quiet. Yeah right!
  • Mufasa is snoring.
  • 2:30 AM the power goes back on. I have been awake the entire time. I now go downstairs to turn all the lights and TV off.
  • 3:17 AM....Thing 1 wakes up.
  • 5:23 AM.....some of Emmie's guy friends decide it would be funny to two-way Mrs. B.
  • 7:01 AM......I have over slept....must have slammed the alarm clock forever. I bolt up and head downstairs for my morning coffee.
  • Thing 1 and Thing 2 wake up like clock work. 10:30 AM....Mufasa finally decides to make an appearance. I am nearly ill from lack of sleep. Oh...did I mention that I have been sick since Christmas Eve? I believe we have a full blown sinus infection going due to the pounding in my head and eyes and just touching my forehead makes me wince in pain!
  • I go upstairs for an hour and lay down. No sleep......just laying there.
  • Get through lunch and get the Things down for naps.
  • I get a NYD hair brained idea. When the kids get up....let's take them to the McDonald's that is near by and let them play in the kiddo section for a while. WE HAVE NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE! (now I know why)
  • SOMEBODY SHOOT ME RIGHT NOW! (I already had decided upon returning home that all Things would be disinfected and given a bath)
  • There are about 7 other kids in there. Not too bad. Sophia and Daniel climb right in but stay within reaching distance. They are a little unsure of the whole gigantic tube thing. And we all know they never get to leave the compound so their little eyes are wide with interest. Sophia decides to make a go of it but freaks out when it is time to come down the slide. Of coarse Mufasa, Thing Teen and her Teen Friend are out ordering the highly nutritious food that one gets at McDonald's.
  • So....up the slide tube I go to get her.
  • Thing 1 joins the rest of the Tribe as they eat french fries. Thing 2 decides to make his way through the entire tube. Sarabi is right behind him with her red VS sweats on and her big white boots. Two rug rats that do not belong to me are hot on my arse....I mean tail. The Boy is crawling through, but slowly. For a brief evil moment I thought about blowing out a foopher in the hopes that the two rug rats would retreat and go another way.....butt (lol) I refrained!
  • Knees are killing me.
  • We do the crawl by at the top of the tube for Daddy and sisters to see. Next is the slide. I get the boy on my lap and I am practically laying flat in order to save my forehead from getting ripped to shreds as I pass through the tunnel. We stop as soon as it goes flat. GREAT! Next thing I know, Mufasa is grabbing my boots and yanking us out of the slide. Can you even imagine? This is only the beginning of the show!
  • The Boy thinks this is the greatest thing since Apple Pie.....oh that's right...he doesn't eat apple pie because he doesn't eat ANYTHING. SO.....I guess it's the greatest thing since Yoplaits Thick and Creamy Yogurt.
  • He wants to go again. Sarabi does not. Sarabi tries to make The Boy happy other ways. The Boy is NOT HAPPY. The tantrum begins and goes into full blown mode. People are looking at me like we are interrupting a fine dining meal. Are you kidding me people????? Do you realize WHERE YOU ARE?????? It's McDonalds.....GET.A.GRIP!!!!! WHY????? WHY...did I do this to myself?? Sarabi picks The Boy up, doesn't even bother to put his coat on, growls at Mufasa for the keys, throws the thrashing boy over her shoulder who is kicking, SCREAMING, hitting, pulling at my hair and I fly through the emergency exit door and put him in the Mama Machine.
  • The rest of the tribe gathers their belongings and we head back to the compound, NEVER, EVER planning to leave AGAIN!
  • I found The Boys new boots I got him. He is going to have to get his energy out playing in the snow. EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. OF. HIS. LIFE! Even if that means freezing his little gonads off!
  • And that is how we have spent the last 24 hours.
  • Good Night!

You could have bought a lot of McDonald's with that $100.

I wish I lived close enough for Daniel to come play, he and Jake would get along just fine.
We stayed home last night because I didn't think he needed to leave the compound. Its just too hard like you say.
Daddy to 4 took our teen thing out to friends. I rang the new year in looking at blogs;) what else?

What a way to start your 2008!! I can totally relate to the sleep sound/machine thing. I'm absolutely smuggling one with me to China. I'm the only person I know that slept with a fan running in my dorm room at night(waaaay back in the mid-late 80s). I knew we were kindred spirts...hee hee.

Happy New Year, Stef!!

Love,
Kim K.

Which is why I never go to MacDonald's. I HATE the play place. It always goes like that. Well, except for one time, when a little boy whipped it out and took a pee on the slide. Yep. Gross.

Oh yes the joy of Mcdonalds. I have climb far to many tubes in my day. Which included kids I use to babysit and my own. Not a huge fan. Thanks for putting a smile on my face as I read about your little adventure. I would go with the snow boot idea instead. :)

It's nice to see a piece of one of the original blogs making a comeback. I have a goldie oldie on mine too. The visual of you climbing through the McDonald's tubes is just busting me up. We try to stick to our 'compound' too, it just makes life easier.
Did you get my e-mail?

Oh my gosh, Steffie! This is so funny! We are also big fans of the noise machines at night time. I love them because they drown out the noise my big kids make when the little ones are trying to sleep and vice versa. I use one in my room to try and drown out hubby's snoring and would you believe he complains that it is too noisy and keeps him awake?? Hello?! What about the 20 years of snoring I have listened to? LOL!

First, let me say, I think you should have blown those stalkers out like noone's business.

Have done the McD's tubes so many times, that my knees automatically bruise if I walk into a McD's now.

Want to try 'Going Bonkers'?

Don't mean to laugh but sorry... I did... couldn't stop... mental image of bring up in the tubes at McDonalds... hahahahahahaha... hope you are feeling better...
