Suesville.......

Welcome to Suesville..........................

Enter at your own risk.............................. It is really getting to be a challenge to out smart Thing 1. She totally LOVES her big girl bed. It is up against a wall and I have the protective side railing up for nap time and bed time. I have REPEATEDLY told her that she needs to stay in her bed once she is in it so Mommy knows she is safe. Well, that doesn't fly with Thing 1. I constantly hear the pitter patter of her feet running down the hallway and I usually make at least two trips upstairs to remind her to stay in her bed. And I can "NEVER ACTUALLY CATCH" her out of bed. There was one afternoon that she was so quiet about it that I didn't even hear her come down the stairs, get some of the stuffed little Halloween characters out of a pumpkin and bring them back upstairs to her bed. I of coarse found them when I heard the running foot steps the "second time" and I was amazed when I saw them in her bed. Ok......more like shocked because I was right down here in the living room and she must have been as quiet as a mouse. Well, this past Friday evening, we came home after having dinner with the older kids for David's birthday. She was still up, so I let my sister Ingrid go home and I put her to bed. We rocked, did the usual routine and then I reminded her to stay in her bed. "Ok Mommy" was the sweet reply. I came downstairs and started to work on my post for Verna. I could hear the pitter patter and I was a bit surprised that she was out of her bed at night time. However, Thing Teen was upstairs and I figured they were having some fun, so I was going to let it go while I uploaded pictures and so on. I could hear her voice over the monitor, but I couldn't understand what she was saying. I thought about getting up and listening, but I thought to myself, "just a few more pictures and I'm done", then I will go and get Thing 1 calmed down and back in bed. Next thing I hear is Thing 2 just screaming. Now mind you....as high maintenance as he is during the day......Thing 2 is a great sleeper! Has been since 7 weeks old. I bet I've only been up with him about 10 times since he was that little. It has always been due to being sick or teeth. So I fly out of my computer chair and run for the stairs, open the door, and I am stunned to hear the pitter patter of feet climbing up the stairs by my bedroom. Thing 1 had not only gotten out of her bed.....she came through our bedroom, down the landing, up to Daniels landing and woke him up, apparently thinking a sibling Thing Party was in order! She had obviously been there for longer than I realized because she decided to dress the cat in her crown, the pumpkin needed her Jasmine slippers and the Ghost needed a new fashion statement and she put her Mermaid dress on it. Mind you Thing 2 is totally flipping out! I pick him up and I start to rock him only to hear the pitter patter of Thing 1's feet coming back down the stairs up to Thing 2's room. I stood up, looked out the door and VERY FIRMLY LOOKED AT HER AND SAID...."Young lady you go back to your room and get into your bed right now!" Thing 1 FREAKS OUT and starts screaming hysterically. Well, being that I can only deal with one freaking out Thing at a time I look at her and tell her to go find sissy. I sit down with the Thing 2, begin to rock him and then I hear................ Thing Teen totally freaking out as well. I hear nothing but complete fear in her voice and she is shouting, "Mom,.....Mom....MOM??????" Well Thing 1 went into Thing Teens room in her hysterical state and said "Someone got Deedal out of his bed" "Someone got Deedal".......so Thing Teen now thinks that someone is IN the house and has taken Thing 2. So as I look out of Thing 2's bedroom door because I hear Thing Teen nearly hyper ventilating...... I see the horror on her face and she has both arms wrapped around Thing 1 for dear life in case she has to make a run for it. Can you even imagine....so I briefly give the story, tell her to go rock Thing 1 and I will be there as soon as I have Thing 2 back into his bed. Luckily for me, Thing 2 calmed right down and went back to sleep. Thing 1 and wild eyed Thing Teen on the other hand were another story. All Things slept through the night after the dramatic evening. ~sigh~ So Thing 1 now has a gate in front of her room. Ha ha ha...na na da booo....right? WRONG! I go up to take a picture of it after I put her in bed for nap time the next day........and not only do I find the door closed.......oh no.....Thing 1 has LOCKED the door as well. I knock on the door and tell her to unlock it right now. When the door opens, I get this....... only my camera did not catch this look in time!
Daddy will be taking the lock off later this afternoon! How am I going to keep up with this child? And......she did not....and I repeat DID NOT take a nap today. It's a battle of the wills here.....and she is STILL getting up at night time and pitter pattering around her room.......that Thing 1 is a stinker!

oh but what a beautiful stinker. :)
Occe Daddy to 4 and I bought a puppy and the owner kept saying she is just personality plus, over and over... Now when Caitlyn does things like Thing 1 one of us will say she is just personality plus.
Good thing these girls have the cuteness factor working on their behalf!
have fun this weekend!

We had the same issues with EI. We reverted to putting a crib and big boy bed in his room. If I had to come up more than once, he was instantly put back into the crib for the night.
Poor Teen Thing. I can't imagine the fear she felt.

Thanks for story time...she cracks me up...poor Emmie!! I can just see her protecting Thing 1 as she runs around looking for Mama! My little one likes to do tours of the house too when she is suppose to be in bed but at least she has no one younger to try and join in.

You're going to love the book "I lost my door". (something like that. It's about a teen whose parent's remove her door. My girlfriend just removed her teenagers door. I of course thought it was the funniest thing, but she cautioned that I shouldn't laugh to quickly! lol.... I guess my day too will come...

Those little ones are smart aren't they?

We had a gated community for awhile. It worked as great leverage later when we let her make up her mind on whether she would be gated or not gated, her choice, but she needed to stay in her room (not necessarily in bed) or the choice would be made for her. She has chosen a non-gated community. Sophia will reach this stage shortly.

Eli is doing the exact same thing. I had to get an alarm to go on the outside of his door. When he opens the door at night, it chimes loudly so we know he's up. I've also had to gate off the stairwell so he doesn't go downstairs.

Jack's Mom said...

Jack had a gate on his room until about two months ago. Gates are sanity keepers! Oh and yeah we are having the locking of the doors around here also. Fun times eh?

BTDT. Lol
Jillian is forever getting out of her bed at nap times, yesterday I peeked in and she was standing on her sister's dresser.
One day(she was about 2)when she decided to paint herself with zinc cream at 1 am, it doesn't come off easily with soap and water. LOL
Thanks for the smile today. ;)

I had the same with Thomas when he went into a big boys bed..I can;t recall if "thing 1" has a rail on her bed?
As soon as we put a safety rail up that acted as a kind of "I have to stay in bed" thing and he never wandered about again!

I could hardly see to finish reading this zaney adventure because I was laughing so hard. Everyone is sleeping and I couldn't control myself. I thought for certain my hysterics would wake them up. I love how she dressed everyone up. Too, too sweet and oh, so creative...
Your tale was hysterical!
Poor Emmie, please tell her I am sorry for ROFLOL while she must have been terrified. I am still laughing... you paint such a picture.
I also love your pics.

Ha Ha Ha!!! I am cracking up reading this. It totally sounds like a scene that could have played out in my house! Only it would be my Teen Thing waking up the Little Thing and the middle Thing would be the one I would call for help. :D Sorry to laugh at your pain, but it was too cute! The grinch smile made me laugh out loud because I believe I have seen that same smile on all three of my children at some point. If only we could catch it on camera.

Hugs!
Sheryl

That really made me laugh! Mickey gets out of his bed and goes sneaks into Joey's bed. Joey does not even realize his baby brother is in bed with him!

I was looking forward to our adoption trip in a few weeks and then I read your post! Now, you have me questioning my sanity! I just got the kids out of all of these stages. They are potty trained, can take a shower by themselves, feed themselves, brush their own teeth and I rarely yell up the stairs anymore to 'GET BACK ON YOUR BED'! What in the world am I thinking! ;) I'm going to have to start all over!

Ok, just now reading this post. It made me laugh so hard. I think Ethan is going to be like this. Thing Teen's reaction made me laugh although I know it was not fun for her.
